NIES launches new Waste Management Research Division (Integration and transfer of the Waste Management Engineering Department from the National Institute for Public Health)
Apr. 2001 NIES becomes an Independent Administrative Institution.
NIES launches the Research Center for Material Cycles and Waste Management
Apr. 2006 Change of the designation of the Center in Japanese (but remained unchanged in English)
